Amway has opened a new distribution centre in Thailand – one the direct selling giant’s top 10 global markets.

The company is estimated to have more than 300,000 sales people in the country and more than 700,000 members.

The new 10,000sq m centre in Samut Prakan has been described by the company as a “world-class warehousing facility”.

Kittawat Ritteerawee, managing director of Amway (Thailand), said: “To make it fully operational, we have spent Bt40 million (US$1.2m) on installations of innovative work processes and advanced logistics technology in the warehouse in order to achieve globally recognised standards of operation.

“Importantly, the recent move helps shorten time to market, reduce costs and enable more complex operations.”

While the firm's sales in Thailand increasd in 2016, the company’s global sales in 2016 declined 7% to $8.8 billion.

Amway sells a wide array of household and personal care products. It is a major seller of dietary supplements through its NutriLite brand. The company says it has more than 3 million independent distributors worldwide.

Amway said its sales increased in seven of its top 10 markets in 2016. But in its biggest market, China, the company’s revenues declined for the third straight year.
