South Korean fish oil manufacturer Chemport has obtained Friend of the Sea (FOS) certification for its Omega 3 products originating from European and Peruvian anchovies.

The two species are caught respectively in the South Eastern Pacific Ocean and the Central Eastern Atlantic Ocean by FOS-approved fleets.

Chemport sells highly-concentrated EPA/DHA fish oils under the Megapex brand.

“The presence of a specific traceability system assures that certified products respect the certification requirements. All fish oils ingredients originate from FOS-certified suppliers, excluding the possibility of a mix with non-certified products,” said the company.

It’s CEO Kim Young-Joo added: “Being certified by Friend of the Sea reinforces our sustainability efforts. We at Chemport have always been deeply engaged in protecting the marine environment.”

According to FOS’s database, Chemport is the first Korean company to achieve its accreditation.

The organisation has so far accredited more than 500 companies in over 50 countries.

Last month Vietnam’s Fine Foods Company achieved FOS sustainable aquaculture certification for black tiger prawn at its fish farm located in Ca Mau province.

“We are very proud to be certified by Friend of the Sea,” said Truong Huu Be, vice director of Fine Foods Company. “Providing our consumers with premium-quality and sustainable products has always been our main goal.”
