Omega-3 finger-prick test now available in some Australian pharmacies
The RRP of the Omega-3 Index Test is AUD$70, although some sites administering the tests have discounted the cost.
The test is the result of work carried out by The Omega-3 Index Project, which was formed to create more awareness of omega-3 insufficiency.
“The ramifications of omega-3 insufficiency include higher rates of chronic disease—particularly heart disease—and billions of dollars in health care costs,” said the organisation.
Measuring omega-3 levels regularly using the Omega-3 Index test will help consumers and patients to identify, correct and maintain healthy levels of these important nutrients and reduce their risk of chronic disease.
According to cardiologist Dr Ross Walker the test provides an excellent opportunity for pharmacy professionals to help improve the heart health of their patients.
“This test is a cost-effective marker of an individual’s Omega-3 status and should become the clinical standard in healthcare,” he said.
