China continues to reflect the growing opportunities across Asia for products designed to be beneficial in fighting health conditions such as obesity, claim the organisers of a major new show in the country.

Food Ingredients (FI) Asia-China, which will take place between 23 to 25 June this year in Shanghai, will continue to run alongside shows such as Health ingredients (HI) and Natural ingredients (NI) over the same date in reflection of this trend.

Vincent Brain, who will serve as event manager for all three shows, said that the combination of health and natural ingredients reflected key areas needs of consumers in the region.

"With concerns over obesity and general health remaining high on the agenda, the co-location of Health ingredients China and Natural ingredients China will enable manufacturers to source ingredients that will make their products stand out to consumers,” claimed Brain.

Despite an Asian-wide focus at the events, Brain was keen to play up the specific potential facing the health food market in China despite wider global fears of how the current economic downturn may impact value-added products.

"Whilst the present economic climate has hit consumer confidence, the Chinese food industry is still expected to grow an additional 109 per cent by 2013,” he stated. China's new middle class remains a resilient market for international companies looking to protect their revenues as core markets mature.”

Safety focus

Attendees are also expected to be granted an insight into latest innovations in regards to food safety, which following the melamine contamination scandal, has taken on even greater significance in China over the last year.

A Food ingredients Processing Safety & Services Pavilion (FiPSS) will detail advances in traceability, microbiology, processing and quality control products, according to the event organisers, United Business Media (UBM).

The group says that the decision to combine the FI, NI and HI shows extends a similar strategy rolled out at its FI Europe show.
