French company Robertet is bringing its health and beauty businesses into China, after it first established its flavours and fragrances business in the country 10 years ago.

Besides China, the flavour and fragrances firm had previously introduced its health and beauty businesses into Japan and South Korea, its two other key Asian markets.

Sourced from millet, cantaloupe melon and wheat grain, the firm's three new beauty-from-within ingredients — which help to reverse hair loss, reduce cellulite and improve skin hydration, respectively — will soon be launched in China.

Speaking to NutraIngredients-Asia at the Food Ingredients China exhibition, Sales and Marketing director, Thomas Ughetto said that these were “natural solutions” that the China market was looking for.

“More specifically to China, we just started a couple of months ago to promote the health and beauty division. Robertet has been in China for almost 10 years but mainly in the flavours and fragrances business, so our division is actually new, and the idea is to promote these three ingredients for the beauty-from-within market in China,” Ughetto said.

“We know that consumers are looking for this type of natural solution for the skin, hair, or for the body shape, so that’s our target and goal today.”

So far, ten clinical studies have been conducted on the three ingredients.

Irene Lamour, Director of R&D of Beauty Ingredients, also talked about the clinical results and the types of applications for the three ingredients with us.

For instance, she said that a daily intake of 300mg of its proprietary ingredient Keranat was able to decrease hair loss by 50%.

The active component, the encapsulated miliacine, fights hair loss by boosting cell proliferation in the hair bulb. It also strengthen the collagen naturally present around the hair bulb for a better hair anchorage.
