Tariffs anticipation: US the top importer of China’s health foods in 2024
China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Medicines & Health Products (CCCMHPIE) has released new data on the import and export of health foods.
According to the data, the US was the top importer of China’s health foods last year, taking over the top spot from Hong Kong.
Concerns over global tariffs adjustments have contributed to an increase in the US’s imports of China health foods last year, said the report.
Germany topples Australia as 2nd largest health foods exporter to China in 2024
Germany has taken over Australia as the second largest health foods exporter to China last year, trailing behind only the US.
The value of Germany’s health foods exports to China between 2023 and 2024 increased by 57.84% to US$1.165bn, according to new data from CCCMHPIE.
Total imports of health foods into China was valued at USD$7.75bn last year, a year-on-year increase of 15.1% — of which nearly 60% came from its five biggest exporters, namely the US, Germany, Australia, Indonesia, and Hong Kong.
China may add joint health support into list of approved claims
China’s State Administration of Market Regulation (SAMR) has drafted new regulations that would allow health foods sold in China to make joint health support claims.
The claims proposed include “helps support maintain joint health”, “helps alleviate joint pain / stiffness”, “helps reduce swelling of joints”, “helps maintain joint cartilage health”, and “helps maintain bone and joint health”.
A public consultation over the draft has been announced on April 24 and will end on June 2.
BYHEALTH’s performance continues downward trend with net profit down 37%
Major Chinese health supplement company BYHEALTH has reported yet another quarter of declining revenue and net profit for Q1 this year.
Revenue shrunk 32.29% from RMB2.65bn (US$363.1m) to RMB1.79bn (US$179.2m), while net profit attributable to shareholders fell 37.44% from RMB726.6m (US$99.7m) to RMB454.5m (US$62.4m).
The latest results released on April 26 reflected a downward trend that the company had seen for the whole of last year.
Doctor’s Best outlines new product strategies for China in 2025
Doctor’s Best, the US subsidiary of China biotech firm Kingdomway, is beefing up its offerings of anti-ageing and liver care products in China this year.
Kingdomway outlined its plans for Doctor’s Best new product launches during the announcement of its FY24 financial results on April 10.
Some of these new launches would include NMN, liver care tablets, and ergothioneine, which has become highly popular in China in recent years.
