Amway deepens partnership with Korean microbiome firm HEM
Amway and Korean biotech firm HEM Pharma have developed new probiotic products based on gut microbiome testing data and would be introducing the business model to new markets, including Japan.
By analysing the data collected, Amway has identified bacteria species present or missing among individuals and how this would affect their bodily functions.
The data serves as a blueprint for product innovation, leading to the launch of Nutrilite Enzyme Biome in South Korea last year, and the companies plan to emulate the success in other markets.
HECH looks to longevity, high potency formulas to grow China’s beauty market
German beauty-from-within brand HECH would be tapping on anti-aging and high potency ingredients to capture a wider group of consumers in China.
It has been selling its products in China via cross-border e-commerce, primarily focusing on collagen supplements, and now plans to pursue growth by launching beyond collagen.
One of its strategies is adding anti-ageing benefits, such as cellular rejuvenation to its products.
GNC China taps on TikTok to drive nutrition pack sales
The use of Douyin - China’s version of TikTok - has helped to drive consumer awareness and success of its daily nutrition pack range, said GNC China.
At the recent Healthplex Expo held in Shanghai between June 24 and 26, the company spoke about how it has tapped on short video and interest commerce app Douyin for building consumer awareness and success of the Vitapak range.
Although the mobile app is known for short videos and livestreaming, Huang Xiao Lei, person-in-charge of GNC China strategic centre, said the company has tapped on the “click ID (CID)” feature in identifying and acquiring new consumers.
China donkey hide gelatin firm looks to desert herb for new growth
Dong-E-E-Jiao, known for its donkey hide gelatin food products, said it would be tapping on a desert herb for new growth opportunities.
The herb of interest is Cistanche deserticola, commonly known as Roucongrong (肉苁蓉)or desert ginseng in China.
It has gained industry interest after it was added by the Chinese authorities into the “List of Substances Traditionally Used as Both Food and TCM in China” in November 2023.
Mengniu to explore bone, joint, anti-oxidation for sports nutrition range
China dairy giant Mengniu Dairy said it has been exploring bone and joint health, as well as anti-oxidative ingredients for its sports nutrition range.
Mengniu launched the sports nutrition brand M-Action (Mai Sheng, 迈胜) two years ago in February 2023.
It has so far developed pre-, during, post-workout nutritional products for active lifestyle seekers as well as professional sportsmen.
