Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin with antioxidant property, scavenging free radicals and reducing oxidative stress. Tocotrienol is one of the vitamin E isomers besides tocopherol, and it has been identified to demonstrate 40-60 times higher antioxidant potency compared to tocopherol.
In this clinical trial, supplementation with a mixture of vitamin E isomers containing tocotrienol-rich fraction (TRF) was studied on how it would affect biochemical parameters e.g. plasma cholesterol, advanced glycosylation end products (AGEs) levels, triglyceride concentrations and other blood indices, and the possible underlying mechanism. The study also investigated age-associated biochemical changes with TRF supplementation and the specific oxidative pathways involved.
This clinical trial was performed using TRF from Sime Darby Oils Nutrition, Gold Tri.E®. The TRF supplement is also available in ready-to-consume capsules, NATRIÉO.
