According to analysts at BCC research, the nutraceutical ingredients market will be led by the phytochemical and plant extracts segment, followed by prebiotics and probiotics, over the next five years, respectively.
“There has been global awareness with regard to the side-effects of chemical ingredients utilised in food and beverage processing. Hence, consumers demand nutraceuticals that utilise natural ingredients. This trend has resulted in a tremendous demand for phytochemical & plant extract ingredients in the nutraceutical ingredients industry,” they said.
This view was echoed by several suppliers at the Jakarta show who were urging manufacturers to explore the potential of botanical extracts as key ingredients in functional food and nutraceutical products.
