The role that probiotics can play to tackle the regional and worldwide challenge of obesity will be assessed by microbiome brand TargEDys at the forthcoming Probiota Asia summit in Singapore.

The keynote presentation will be delivered by the firm’s CEO and VP of Research & Development Dr Gregory Lambert, who said: “The challenges of overweight, obesity and their associated conditions are an increasingpublic concern in the Asia Pacific region. The rise in the prevalence of overweight andobesity is, in part, a negative consequence of the increasing economic developments ofmany lower- and middle-income countries in this region.

TargEDys, a French clinical stage biotech company, has identified a new mechanism of appetite regulation via the microbiome that could be the solution to this problem.

“TargEDys’ innovative, satiety inducing technology (ProbioSatys®) is based on a commensal, enterobacteria probiotic strain, Hafnia alvei, that produces the ClpB protein, a mimetic of the satiety hormone α-MSH. The mechanism of Hafnia has been proven in vitro and in vivo and tested in humans,” added Dr Lambert.

He will present the first ‘real life’ efficacy results at the summit, which takes place from October 22-24 at the Hilton on Orchard Road.

Key takeaways will include

• The challenges of overweight populations – Global and APAC Regions.

• Details of the new microbiome led, molecular mechanism of appetite regulation -  ProbioSatys and the strain Hafnia alvei 4597

• The mechanism of Hafnia and clinical study findings

A pharmacist, with a PhD in pharmaceutical technology, Gregory’s career has been split between Biotech and Pharma as Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Executive Officer in companies such as Novagali Pharma, Septodont and currently TargEDys.

He joins fellow confirmed speakers:
