South East Asia's fortified food market is at a tipping point where it is ready to progress from fortification with traditional vitamins and minerals, and move towards specialised ingredients such as asataxanthin.

Speaking at our first Healthy Ageing APAC Summit in Singapore, AstaReal’s Dr Vincent Wood said consumer understanding and demand for functional foods was growing in the region, providing the firm with considerable opportunities outside of the traditional supplements space.

In our video, Dr Wood explains how ingredient innovation was increasing the options open to food manufacturers, and details why he believes there will be a “convergence” between supplements and functional foods.

He also assess what he maintains are two of the fastest growing health concerns among the region’s population – eye health and mobility – and underlines the importance of rigorous clinical trials to build consumer confidence.
