Global life science business Bioiberica has teamed up with Chinese vitamin and dietary supplements provider ByHealth to expand its joint health product portfolio with the introduction of collagen tablets in China.

Highflex type II collagen tablets are formulated with Bioiberica’s native (undenatured) type II collagen ingredient, Collavant n2, which the Spain-based company claims can improve knee discomfort and function.

Promoting the benefits of collagen

The first supplement to result from the strategic partnership, the tablets are being launched to meet consumer demand for mobility support with effective, low-dose and convenient products, according to the businesses.

The partnership aims to promote the advantages of collagen supplementation on joint health in China since the product is mostly associated with skin health across Asia.

Jaume Reguant, Healthcare Director at Bioiberica, says: “China is a particularly interesting and dynamic territory in the global mobility market.

“It has a large ageing population and an emerging health-conscious younger generation, but collagen for joint health and mobility is a relatively new concept. There is therefore significant opportunity for brands looking to target Chinese consumers – especially if they educate them about the benefits of collagen beyond skin and beauty.”

New trends and collaborations

ByHealth, which was established in 1995, entered the Chinese vitamins and dietary supplements market in 2002. It now supplies nutritional products and scientific support to 70-plus of the country’s sports teams.

Meanwhile, Bioiberica researches, produces and sells pharmaceutical and nutraceutical ingredients such as chondroitin sulphate, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, native type II collagen, and thyroid.

According to Reguant, Bioiberica is always looking to collaborate with manufacturers that want to respond to new trends with the latest science and ingredient innovations.

He adds: “Bringing together ByHealth’s well-respected brand with our technical understanding has allowed both companies to reinforce its place in a fast-growing mobility market.

“We’re very proud to have been able to work so closely with the team at ByHealth to bring Highflex type II collagen chewing tablets to life and provide consumers with an effective solution that helps them achieve their health and wellness goals. We’re already in talks about further collaborations and excited to see how our partnership will grow.”
