A group of experts in Asia has finalised 14 consensus statements around muscle health in healthy elderly and those suffering from sarcopenia, including recommendation for protein, leucine, and L-carnitine supplementation.
The supplementation of leucine-enriched whey protein drink, together with resistance exercise, was shown to improve cardiometabolic health, such as a lower LDL-cholesterol and serum insulin, according to a 16-week clinical trial.
Protein supplements containing high amounts of leucine are more effective than others in triggering muscle building synthesis, a kinesiology professor has argued, citing a number of scientific studies.
